Ask A Question
Dr. Liang is one of the few doctors, or perhaps the only doctor in the Sacramento area to have the SLT laser. The SLT laser is used on glaucoma patients to lower their intraocular pressure by using short pulses of low energy laser light which stimulates an increase in fluid outflow. This technique is much less traumatic to the eye than other types of lasers. This is a short, outpatient procedure performed in our surgery center. The laser can be utilized in addition to Glaucoma eye drops. In some cases, it can replace expensive glaucoma drops as first line therapy.
You should understand there are a number of diseases that increase intraocular pressure, all relating to Glaucoma. Increased intraocular pressure gone undetected and untreated, damages your optic nerve and your retinal nerve fibers. These are common causes of irreversible vision loss. This is only one of many reasons we encourage you to set and keep annual vision examinations.
You can read more in the Glaucoma section.
